Mother's Day: A Sunday for our Ilaw

    Every year, families worldwide await the second Sunday of May to celebrate Mother's Day. As stated in the name, it is a day to honor motherhood and to show our undying love and respect towards them. It began way back in May 1908 when an American woman named Anna Jarvis organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration at a church in West Virginia. And ever since 1914, the 2nd Sunday of May was International Mother's Day. Every continent, country, and family has its unique festivities and traditions, which makes the day even more special.    In the Philippines, there is no specific way to celebrate Mother's Day, but most families make sure to make their " ilaw ng tahanan " special. Some simply greet their mothers personally or through social media, and some give heartwarming gifts such as letters and flowers.
