Youth Vaccines: Gateway to a Healthy Future

Since COVID-19 started to spread rapidly nationwide, pharmaceutical companies immediately began to produce a vaccine. But of course, the early batches of doses were only safe for adults aging 18 to 59 years old. It was until November 3, 2021, that the rollout of nationwide COVID-19 vaccination among 12-17 year-olds began. Even though vaccines are very accessible, parents are still reluctant to get their children vaccinated. This may be due to vaccine hesitancy or lack of knowledge of the vaccine. So if we have the resources, we should research the vaccine.
When thinking about getting a vaccine, we should first know if we are healthy enough to take it. Children require fewer doses or amounts than adults because their bodies are different. We should be aware of our children's medical conditions. If they have a weak immune system or have comorbidities, it is recommended that they seek assistance from their doctor first. Side effects are a big part of the vaccine, so we should prepare and be aware of these before vaccinating. It is proven that the vaccine is safe and effective for ages five and above. Getting vaccinated will benefit us in the long run. It does not fully prevent us from getting infected, but it will lessen our chances of contracting and spreading it. Vaccines lower the probabilities of us experiencing severe symptoms and even death. Having a majority vaccinated population is a major step in achieving an immune and COVID-free country.
In our lives, especially during the pandemic, we should put our youth's health first. They are a key part of our community that needs extra protection and precaution. While we can, we should improve our chances of a healthy life. Vaccines allow us to worry less about health and focus more on what we do. It gives our children the opportunity to live life normally in these unprecedented times. So let us educate ourselves and others about pediatric vaccines for the betterment of our nation.
